Why It Matters

You Only Get One Chance to Pre-Wire

After drywall closes, running wire means cutting walls, patching, and repainting. The cost of retrofitting a whole-home audio system in a finished home is 3–5x the cost of pre-wiring during construction. What takes a few hours during the build takes days in a finished home — and it shows.

Pre-wiring isn't a luxury add-on. It's the smart financial decision that locks in the full value of your home's technology infrastructure for decades. Whether you're planning to use it all at move-in or grow into it over time, having the infrastructure in the walls means you're never limited by what's accessible.

We coordinate directly with your general contractor's schedule — rough-in before insulation, trim-out and equipment install after drywall, programming and calibration after certificate of occupancy. No disruption to the build timeline.

Builder Partnership

We Work With Your Build Team

Onora integrates into the project timeline like any other sub. We show up for rough-in, coordinate with electricians and framers, and come back for trim-out and programming after certificate of occupancy. We know how to work within a busy build schedule without creating friction for the GC.

We can attend design meetings, provide tech spec sheets for permit drawings, and coordinate with interior designers on speaker placement, shade pocket dimensions, and keypad locations. Sean has managed large-scale builds with Brinks Home — pre-wire coordination is his wheelhouse.

If you're a custom home builder looking for a reliable low-voltage sub who shows up, does the work right, and doesn't require hand-holding — let's talk. We're the technology partner your clients have been asking for.

How We Work

Our New Construction Process

1

Pre-Construction Consultation

We meet with you (and your builder or architect if available) during the design or permitting phase. We review the floor plan, discuss your technology goals, and map out every pre-wire location.

2

Design & Spec Sheet

We produce a detailed technology spec sheet with all wire types, locations, conduit runs, and equipment room requirements. This document is available for permit drawings and GC coordination.

3

Rough-In (Pre-Drywall)

We coordinate with your GC to schedule rough-in after framing and before insulation. All cabling, conduit, and rough-in boxes are installed cleanly and labeled for trim-out.

4

Trim-Out & Equipment Install

After drywall and paint, we return to terminate all cabling, install devices and speakers, build out the equipment rack, and prepare every system for programming.

5

Programming, Calibration & Walkthrough

We program all automation, calibrate audio and video, and walk you through every system before move-in. You'll know exactly how to use your home the day you get the keys.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I contact you during new construction?
Ideally at the design or permitting stage, before framing begins. We can still pre-wire after framing but before insulation. The earlier you contact us, the more options you have and the easier it is to get on the GC's schedule. Contact us early to lock in your spot on the build timeline.
What does a smart home pre-wire package cost?
A typical luxury new construction technology package runs $15,000–$75,000+ depending on home size, number of AV locations, and automation scope. We provide itemized quotes so you know exactly what you're getting before any work begins. Request a quote.
Can I add technology after my home is built?
Yes, but retrofits cost significantly more and involve more disruption — cutting walls, patching drywall, and repainting. The cost of retrofitting a whole-home audio system in a finished home is 3–5x what it costs to pre-wire during the build. Pre-wiring during construction is always the better investment. Call (520) 222-6998 to discuss your options.
Do you work with custom home builders in Tucson?
Yes. We partner with custom home builders across the Tucson metro, including Oro Valley, Marana, Sahuarita, and the Foothills. We integrate into the project timeline like any other sub — showing up for rough-in and returning for trim-out after certificate of occupancy. If you're a builder looking for a reliable low-voltage partner, let's connect.
